Taking your GPS on a plane? Look here.

Got a sad lesson on my trip to Hawaii. My Garmin, with card loaded up with detail maps for the visit, arrived with the card blank. Guess screening Xray or mag scan erased it.

If I ever do that again I am going to carry the card on my person and reinsert it at my destination.

Very odd. Basically, those cards are the same as the ones you use in cameras and "thumb drives" for computers. Scanners shouldn't have erased it.

Yeah...I put my cameras and computers through the scanners all the time. Hard drives, internal memory, CF cards, SD cards, SM cards...all fine. Its a wonder I don't get mugged though...:)

Did someone else turn it on to check that it wasn't a bomb? Maybe one of the TSA monkeys pushed a button they shouldn't have.

Well, I now have my doubts.

Reinstalled it in the vehicle and all of my local maps are just fine. Maybe I didn't install the Oahu maps correctly in the first place. :'(

That'd be the problem.
