Taking the prop off.

I dinged my prop pretty bad this weekend. I don't have a manual to help guide me through taking the old prop off. It is a 1995 Mariner 100hp 2 stroke. It looks like it is pretty straight forward to take the prop off, just loosen the main nut and pull. Is this the case or are there other pitfalls to lookout for when taking a prop off? Any idea where I may be able to find a manual online without having to pay for a new one? Thank you ahead of time for your help.

Re: Taking the prop off.

Should be a cotter pin, castellated nut flat washer and then the prop. Behind the prop is usually a thrust washer. You may want to tap the prop evenly from the backside with a soft mallet or a wooden block. After removing thoroughly clean the splines and use marine grade grease on the spline.
Also, don't overtighten the nut when re installing. Some motors have a torque spec and some are barely more than finger tight. You may want to use the search function to find that info.

Make sure you wedge a piece of wood between the prop and the cav plate on the motor so it will not spin while trying to take it off and put a new one back on.

If the prop can still move slightly in and out does this mean it is ok and not overtight?
What damage can result from an overtightened prop or one that is not tight enough? .........Irv964
