Taking on Water / Location of Seacocks?

I have a minor mystery on my hands. I have a Rinker 242 FiestaVee and I appear to be taking on some water in the cabin. The bottom floor below deck in the cabin continues to remain wet but when I look at the engine compartment in the stern it is dry.....the engine compartment is the lowest part of the hull and I would think water would accumulate there. We do have a Jabsco toilet in the cabin that I am not exactly sure how to operate. In the Rinker manual it said to have the seacocks closed when not using the toilet. Where would this seacocks valve be? Would this cause water to be in the cabin but not the engine compartment?
Thanks!

Hello Rinker, I'm not familiar with the design of your particular boat, but in general, all thru-hull fittings below the waterline have seacocks on them and in my opinion, should be closed unless the device is in use. I would look under the settee or v berth for access to them. if your boat is on a trailer, they are easy to find, just look for the thru hull fittings on the bottom of the boat.. if your boat is outside, you may be getting rain water leaking in, in any case, try to fix it, as water in the boat will eventually cause some damage...good luck......

Do you have an air conditioner system in the boat? If so, the moisture you see may be the condensation from the coils. Frequently this will drain directly into the bilge, although when done right, is discarded overboard.

Hey Rinker,

I had a the same exact issue with my boat this year and it was not the Seacock. Underneath my cabin floor there was a water housing connection that connected the fresh water tank to the sinks in the cabin. This had a crack in it and caused all the water from the holding tank to leak right under the cabin floor and keep the carpet nice and wet. Maybe that is the same issue you are having.

Also I have a Jabsco toilet and AC on my boat. Both have their own Seacocks and they are each located in the engine compartment. They look like levers that move 45 degrees, when down they are closed and when up (vertical) they are open. Good luck.

Brian O
