I'm planning a trip that I'm taking this summer. I'll fly into Las Vegas from Kansas and rent a car. I was planning on checking out Lake Mead and then head south to Topock and Lake Havasu.

My main focus is on houseboating and a place to retire to. I would appreciate any input you might have. I've check out a couple of websites but unfortunately, so far, they look like a lot of party goers. a.k.a. a video of the Channel on Lake Havasu...... wall to wall fast boats and young people..... Don't get me wrong, I was young and rowdy once myself... But Now I'm looking for the peaceful life. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Cumberland reservoir in Tennessee or KY is a nice, mostly quiet houseboat destination. They have lots of houseboat rentals so you will see the partying there too, but it's a dry county to some extent. Not very many homes on this reservoir, it's almost all State or National parks. It makes for some very pretty lake shore from the boat. Have fun!! Huge body of water!! Good fishing too

Lake Mead/Mojave is a great place. You can find rentals for houseboats on the lake near Laughlin or near Havasu. You're right that Havasu will have a much younger crowd. But Lake Mojave has a great lake, the river below Davis dam, and plenty of coves to relax. We enjoyed is so much, we purchased a home in Bullhead City, AZ, and couldn't be happier. Although we're not at an age for retirement today, it is certainly something that we discuss. In the meantime, we're enjoying our home as a vacation home. Bullhead is a smaller town than Havasu. But is has absolutely everything that you could need. Home Depot, restaurants, Walmart, Chase bank, Rite Aid, Kohls, Bed Bath & Beyond, and lots of family owned stores. If you haven't looked near Bullhead City and Laughlin, you owe it to yourself to do so. And one more thing.... the casinos aren't so bad either. Check it out.

Lots of nice house-boating in Mead, Havasu, Powell. Just keep in mind, water is a major source of recreation in the southwest, so especially during the season, the lakes can be busy!! Your being from Kansas, the periodic 128 degrees in Bullhead city during the summer won't bother you.

Happy boating!!
