Tahoe question

I’ve read a lot of great information here about 4WD verses 2WD, but I have a question about limited slip differentials. Now, I know some of you guys want a rig that will tow the QE2 (with ice chest, fuel and toys, of course), but my wife will have to drive the truck the other 350 days a year when we’re not at the lake. That being said, we’re considering a 2003 Tahoe 2WD to tow a 4700# rig. The truck has the standard tow package. How do I tell if it also has limited slip differential? I’ve researched the specs, but can’t tell or I just don’t understand. Thanks.

Re: Tahoe question

Pretty sure that almost everything comes standard with limited slip.

Re: Tahoe question

I’d forget the limited slip and get the locking differential option. Also take a look at the rear end ratio. I’ve got the 5.3 with a 3.73 rear and it pulls #5700 without a problem. My brother has a 4.8 with a 3.42 rear and it’s certainly not as “strong” as mine.

Re: Tahoe question

Look in the glove compartment. There is a manufacture's label with codes on it. (there are allot of codes) If there is G80 listed then you have a locking differential. also.... look under the hood and make sure it has the small factory transmission cooler (that is part of the "factory tow package") if the cooler is missing that means the hitch was added on after the initial production.

The 4.8 liter will do the job but...the 5.3 has a better torque curve for towing.

Bob <---- presently working at Alderman's Chevrolet :)
