Anybody know where I can buy a tach. for my 2001 30hp 2 stroke Nissan outboard. I prefer "plug and play" as to having to go to electronic class for hookup.
Thanks
Don

Re: Tachometer

Hello TG I don't mean to highjak the thread but I have 25hp 2 strokes that I got for it one of the after market hours/tach meter that you connect the black wire to a good ground and coil the red Wier around the Cly #1 spark plug wire and when I installed it it worked for about 10 seconds so I returned it the man said that it was probably a defective unit and he send me another one and this one worked for about 20 minutes and the rpm reading was all crazy up and down but the motor was running fine at the same rpm and thin it went out so the question is is there any after market hour/tech meter or you have to get it from the dealer?thanks

Re: Tachometer

I only do OEM so the factory stuff is the only thing I can recommend. I know some people swear by/at the TINY TACH, but it apparently only works on a few models...Don't know which ones.

Re: Tachometer

Tiny tachs are an inductive pickup type of device just like a timing light. If you happen to run the pickup wire too close to multiple cylinders it can confuse the little bugger. Installed correctly they work fine. Two failures in my view points to incorrect installation. That said, there a couple types of Tiny Tachs. You need one for a four stroke as each cylinder fires once every other rev and a two stroke fires on every revolution.

why would I need one for a 4 stroke if I have a 2 stroke?

Re: Tachometer

the quicksilver digital "plug and play" tach works best with no interference from other cyl .....
