Tachometer Wiring

I have a 1972 1150 Merc. The fish-finder was reading 17+ volts, way too much in MHO for the continued life of most electronics.
I replaced the rectifier with a combination rectifier/regulator. The unit is from a Kohler engine. This fix was posted on this forum.

I am now unable to get the tach to work. With just the regulator it works great.
I have tried the usual yellow leads from the stator and the second connector down on the switch box. My Merc. wiring diagram shows the brown lead from the Mercontrol is connected to the second terminal down on the switch box on the side with 4 connections.
Does anyone have any ideas of other terminals to try or any fix for this?

Thanks,

Re: Tachometer Wiring

What kind of tach do you have. If it is aftermarket or non-Mercury, it needs to use one of the yellow stator wires to supply the tach signal. It also needs +12VDC and ground. Only old Merc tachs (early 70s) use the brown terminal on the switchbox.

I recommend you check all three connections.
