I have a tach to install on a 1976 Johnson 85, there are a number of settings and I'm not sure which to set it to.

the settings are as follows

2p and 4c

3p and 6c

4p and 8c

5p

6p

c=cycles
p=pulses

if there were 4 coils I would think 4p and 8c, but since there are 2 coils (wasted spark system) I would think 2p and 4c

can anyone verify this

Thanks

Re: Tachometer settings

the most common setting for the tach is 6P....some of the lower HP motors like mine 1983 35hp is a 5P setting....

Try the 6P setting thats 12 poles 6 pulses...
