The old tach is irratic ......Is it better to repair, or replace? If replaced, can we expect the existing wiring can connect to the new unit?

How old is old? Don't quote me here but it is my understanding that 'older' tachs were analog and 'newer' tachs are 'digita/electronic'??? I was told by one brand Mfgr that they no longer service their 'older' tachs.

You can either find a local instrument repair bidna, of find and contact the Mfgr of yours. That way you will know for sure.

Is it Teleflex with black selector switch on the back of the unit ?
If so, remember the position and switch it several times around,
this should clear any oxide on it's contacts.
I actually had to cut my a part and solder in permanent jumper.
It solved the problem.

You have to check manufacturer of the tach.
Teleflex is the most widely used brand.

Faria is another popular brand that has a lifetime warranty. If you have a Faria, check their website for more info.
