Tachometer problem

I have a 1991 Nissan 70 H.P. outboard. Had a lot of problems with it this year, first off it was fuel problems. Got that taken care of. Next it was battery and ignition problems. got those taken care of. Took the boat pout today and the motor ran "perfect". Could not be any happier with the way it ran. Model # NS70A2

Now, my tachometer is not working at all. Stayed at 'zero' this morning when I started it up. Ran all day long on zero on the meter. Now I got the boat back home, and the tach is stuck on about 600 rpm. Even when the battery is in the off position on the switch. Where do I begin my trouble shooting for this tach problem?? Thanks

If the tach reads 600 even without power, it's likely bad.

Yep, tachs don't last forever, better intall a new one will read true rpm throughout the motor's rpm range...

Happy Boating
