1995 Duckworth 20' with 140 hp Suzuki 2 stroke outboard. When the ignition is switched on, after a 10-15 second pause the tachometer pegs out. Starting the motor makes no difference.
Any help appreciated.

thanks

:welcome: jamby to iboats. Great having you join us...

If your tach is pegging without the engine even running, disconnect the signal wire from it and if it still pegs, look for a new tach. If it stops pegging, you need to trace the signal wire out to see what is wrong with it... JMHO!

Thanks gm280. I'll try to find out which is the signal wire and try your test.

If the Tach has switches to set it to proper Motor type , sometimes it helps to switch them back and forth to clean up the connections

Checking back. Finally got to work on the boat. Had to cut away three tie straps to get to the back of the tach. While trying to separate the wires of the last bundle (attached to the tach) one wire got disconnected (gray). Then nothing on the dash would work, with that wire reconnected the tach worked during a short test start of the motor and its not pegging at power on.

Thanks
Jim
