Tachometer Installation

Bought a new Teleflex tach for my 86 BassTracker w/ a 50hp Mariner. The instructions were easy enough to follow except when it came to hooking up the wire going to the IGN post on the new tach. The original tach didn't have a IGN post it had a "P" post. When I hooked up the wiring Gray lead to "Send" post, Black lead to "GND" post, and the Violet lead to "IGN" post, turned the ignition to on and the tach needle never zeroed. The instrument light works, so I have power to the gauge. Am I suppose to have 12v at the violet lead with the switch in the on position?

Yes, the violet lead will have 12v with ignition switch turned to the on position.

Re: Tachometer Installation

Thanks Andy. Just checked the lead with a meter and I do have 12.5v at the lead when switched to ON. Is the gray lead that suppose to connect to the send post run back to the rectifier?
