Tachometer help with '72 evinrude 85hp

Is it possible to link up a tachometer with a '72 Evinrude 85hp. It has points and distributor. Also it seems this thing only gets 1 or 2 miles to the gallon, is this normal?

Depending on how your driving yes MPG suck. A tach can be installed and that would help you find the "sweet spot" where you get the best MPG aka cruise range.<br /><br />Bob

JDubb.... Personal tests with that engine show that at full throttle, 6 gallons would last 45 minutes. At crusing range (full throttle, then back off to approx 3/4 throttle), 6 gallons would last approx 2 hours.
