I just bought a 2005 Bayliner 175 with a Mercruiser 3.0 L I/O drive and the tachometer is frozen at 1200 RPM. I removed it, checked the connections and reinstalled it but no change. Any suggestions or do I just buy a new one? If a new tach is the only option, where can I find one that matches?

The gauge is a Faria 0-6000 model DL0791A.

Thank you,
Mike

Now my speedometer is also not working. Any suggestions on where to start troubleshooting and what levels or values on my meter to look for coming from a 2005 Merc. 3.0 with alpha 1 drive?

Your speedometer isn't electrical except for the light. It runs by pressure. Look for a tube about 1/4" in diameter running into the outdrive (I think that's where it goes on Alphas). The opening often gets clogged with a bit of debris, resulting in no speed reading. If the tube doesn't go to the outdrive, there will be a pitot mounted on the transom. It will look like this:

If the tach is bad, try www.GreatLakesSkipper.com if none of these matches what you've got.
