the tach on my boat surges up and down what i would like to know is if i can connect another tach at the same time to compare readings to one another

Explain what is happening while your tach is surging up and down. Is your motor revving up and down at the same time? If not, you may have a loose wire. make sure all your wire connections are clean and tight.
