I have a 1984 150 johnson speedometer tube broken off at motor lower unit, can this be repaired without taking lower unit apart? Tach doesn't read right, very erratic. Motor runs good, no missing. Any ideas?

No for the 1st one and maybe a bad connection on the second.

As far as the speedometer tube, you can buy a speedometer kit that has a pickup that can be mounted to the motor or the transom of the boat. That is if you don't want to repair the lower unit. the kits are pretty cheap and can be bought at most marine stores.

If after checking all your connections the tack is still erratic it may indicate a
reg/rec going bad. What brand of tach is it?

You don't need to take the l/u off to replace the pitot tube. Clean out the part that's left and push in a new one. It's plastic so it should be no big deal. Once it's out blow compressed up thru the passage from the bottom opening.

Good luck!

The tach is a Stewart/Warner, I haven't had time to check connections yet. The boat did sit for awhile, maybe connections are corroded? Thanks again!
