Re: tach setting

Van, most OMC motors use setting 6 for 6 pulses, but I think in your case you have a 5 amp stator and as I understand it that would indicate that it puts out 5 pulses in which case you would want it set on setting 5. Note that I'm not 100% certain on this theory though. Maybe someone else might be.

Re: tach setting

I might add that from experience if you set it on the wrong setting your readings will be off by about 20%, meaning if you set it on 5 and it should be on 6 your tach will read aproximately 1200 rpm's higher than its actually running and visa versa.

Re: tach setting

It's a 12 pole, 6 pulse, alternator, The setting is 6. Amp's has nothing to do with it.

Re: tach setting

Position 6 is correct for the V4's. Looper and crossflow.

Re: tach setting

Thanks to everyone for the info. I believe it is set on 5 and does seem to read high. I will make sure its on 6 now.

Van

Re: tach setting

a quick note is to count the wires on the rectifier, to my knowledge all the V4 and up set at 6 pulse but the 4 wire rectifiers on the 3 cyl and 2 cyl motors set at 5 pulse.
makes a bit of a difference in the tach reading.
