Tach RPM increases when I turn on the ignition

I installed a new Faria tach, the exact model that was in my boat that gives wildly inaccurate readings. Took photos to guarantee I wired up the new one correctly.

When I turn on the ignition, before I start the engine, the tach dial begins slowly increasing, and when I turn off the engine it slowly decreases.

Not sure if that's normal, I don't remember the old one doing that.

How do I delete my posts? I fixed it, I suspect that the signal wire was touching the batt lead. Now it doesn't behave as described above.
