The tach reads fine till I get to about 4500 then it won't read any higher. I can tell the engine is getting to full rpm (about 5400) by the sound and the speedometer. Do tachs go out this way? Can their windings or movement get sticky? I'm hoping the problem is in the tach itself and not a problem with the Mercury outboard.
