Just got this boat and the tach reads around 750rpm at idle which is ok but at full throttle only 3200rpm or so. Seat of the pants and motor sound says this is wrong. Any help on where to start looking for the problem would be appreciated.

Best prove its wrong first....borrow another tach to compare. You can also use:
>mechanical tach on end of crank
>photo tach
>plug wire tach

any of these will give you actual rpm to compare to the dash tach....

:)

Schematic is right, and another honesty check is to do the math and calculate from your prop pitch, drive ratio, and boat speed, to see if the RPMs are near where they should be.

That is, if you have a boat speedo or gps......
