tach question for 1993 c40 yamaha

bought teleflex tach for my 1993 c40 2cylinder. called teleflex about where to set poles. adviced to check under fly wheel and see how many poles it had and and set to half the amount. example if it has 6p set to 3p. I have yamaha manual and cylmers but can not find how many poles my engine has.does anyone ou there know how many poles a c40 elrr---6e9-L-554367 yamaha engine has?

strictly out of memory, the C40 had a 6 pole 3 pulse altenator.
you can call any yamaha dealer and have them look it up. its in the c40 section of the tuneup spec guide.
dont get confused with poles and pulses.
some tachs use poles and others pulses.
poles simply refer to the number of altenator charge coils.
not to be confused with CDI charge coils or pulser coils.
so if you have 12 poles you have 6 pulses,6 poles you have 3 pulses.
most midrange yamahas used a 6 pole system.
