Tach Problems

I have a 1999 Yamaha 90 hp. My tach started bouncing between 5200 and 5500 rpms when the correct reading was around 5200 for the speed I was running. Then it settled out around 600 rpms high. Any suggestions on correcting this problem would be appreciated.

Here is a link to the teleflex troubleshooting guide http://www.tflx.com/PDF/99320.pdf and it applies to the majority of marine tachometers. Sounds as if there is a loose connection.<br /><br />hope it helps.<br /><br />Bob
