Guys, I posted last week looking for a recommendation on a replacement tach for mine that for some reason quit climbing at 3,400 rpm although the engine still revved higher.
I took a stab at figuring it out myself to satisfy my curiosity and because I'm about as cheap as they come.
I got it out of the dash, removed the trim ring and face glass and moved the needle up to 3,400 and sure enough it hit some resistance. I could easily push it past that resistance then it hit another spot at about 4,400 rpm. I took the lightbulb out to see if I could see how the back of the unit comes off when I noticed the needle no longer stopping where it did before. Seems the previous owner either has the wrong bulb installed or had pushed it in too deep causing one of the moving parts of the inside of the tach to contact the bulb itself. I will replace the bulb asap since it was burned out but I need to find the correct replacement numbers first.
No more problem with the tachs needle movement now.
Anyone happen to know the bulb size? It's a Sun Super Pro tach.
