tach problem 95 astro boat

i have a 95 astro boat with a 150 ob merc i just got it so i dont know much about it the tach stopped working today when i had it at wot and doesnt start working again till im at ideal as sone as it reaches around 3k it drops to zero ive drove this boat alot before and it never did this so it is a new problem any help would be great

I hope you gets some responses here shawn. I'm dealing with two boats with intermittant tach issues. One is a dead stock wiring/ignition system that causes two different tachs to do two different things.

The other is a replacement tach on a boat using an MSD ignition. Sometimes the tach agrees with my digital tach and sometimes it reads very high.

I don't know where to go to answer these issues. I feel if I just went out and bought new tachs I'd have the same issues.

Set the switch on the back of the tach to 6P
