Hi,
I have a 2002 Mercury 60 ELPT fourstroke and after the winter suddenly the tachometer does not work anymore. It worked last year.
When turning on the ignition the needle moves out of the range, but when starting and running the engine nothing happens. When turning off the ignition the needle moves back again. The engine runs fine.
Now I thought it got its signal from the regulator and with the engine running I only get 12.2 Volts. So the regulator seems to be bad, becuase I think the voltage should be like 14 V or so. However, looking at the regulator, I see 2 yellow wires (AC), a red and black wire (DC) and a grey one. The grey one is not connected (there is a rubber cap on it) and according to the picture in the manual that is correct.
How does the tachometer get its signal?
Thanks,
Stefan
