Tach / Hour meter guage replacement

I have a tach guage that began sticking on me last season. I'm planning to replace it with a new Faria tach/hour meter combo guage. However, I would like to syncronize the hour meter to the hours on the motor (about 75hrs). I don't believe there is any way to preset the hours on the new guage during installation. Therefore, I was thinking of hooking the leads up to a 12V battery for a few days. Then to a cigarette lighter adapter and plugging it in my truck so I can closely monitor and syncronize the hours on the replacement guage to the actual hours on my boat before installation. Is there any better alternatives or reasons why this wouldn't work?

Helpful thoughts appreciated.

It sounds like ya got a plan. No reason that won't work. 8)
