Tach connection

Hi, I have a 1970 mercury 500 50 hp motor and I just bought a tachometer for it, in my book in the wiring diagram it says I am suppose to hook the pulse wire up to the blue terminal of the switch box but it does not work that way, is there another way to hook up the tach or can I hook it to one of the ac terminals of the stator. Thanks

yep, hook it to one of the ac terminals of the rectifier. Set the tach to 6p.

The tach does'nt have any settings on the back of it, is that bad. Thanks for the help
