Re: Tac wireing

It would help if we knew:

What engine do you have? (Make, Horsepower, Year)

What make tachometer do you have?

What color wires lead from the tachometer? (OR)..... If the tachometer simply has terminals that wires attach to, what markings are on the terminals?

Re: Tac wireing

G = Ground... Black wire to negative lead of battery or known ground at instrument area.
I = Ignition... Purple wire from "A" terminal of ignition switch.
L = Lights... Blue wire. Connect to light switch.
S = Sender/Sensor... Gray wire that should be protruding from engine to controls wiring harness.

Re: Tac wireing

You asked in a PM about what to wire a temp switch up to? You'll need to be more precise in your questions, such as...... what exactly is it that you're speaking of. I replied here as I don't want to get tied up replying back and forth with private messages.

If you want to add a temp gage, see below. The temp switch is not used for a gage.

Re: Tac wireing

The purple is switched 12 volts from the ignition, it provides the power to the gauge. The tan wire runs to the "sending unit" which is actually a big thermistor which allows current to flow to ground at varying rates depending on the temperature around it. The gauge displays the rate of flow as the temp reading. Blue is for the lights and it goes to ground through the black. I think. :D

These dang phones are a PITA. I tried to look at the drawing at work and had to wait til I got home to really see it.
