Mariner 30E 689- how can you tell if the thermostat is bad?
Surely it wouldn't pee if the t-stat is bad, or will it?
This o/b was sitting up for several years before I bought it and have found that the previous owner knew little about or just didn't take good care of this thing the short time he ran it( he bought it from an older man who used it in fresh water only and was the origional owner). When I bought it from the second owner he told me he had someone winterize it before he let it sit up for those years, but when I pulled the carb off it was gummed up very bad so I cleaned a rebuilt it. After that and when I got it running it would not pee, had to run wire up the hole repeatedly to unclog. Since this thing had been so neglected and the amount of crud that I had to get clear from the pee hole I removed the t-stat and well it was pretty guncked up too?
Called my Mariner parts guy to quote water pump and t-stat he told me he didn't stock the t-stat because most people just leave it out and that the motor would run fine witout it. Not really sure I want to do that, any thoughts?
