Hello, I have 1986 150 evinrude. Has anyone looked into adding system check (on dash lights) to this older model. I now have the horn system under dash and running WOT sometime is hard to hear the horn and Ilike the gauge on dash a. I would like to hook this up to my 86 but not sure what is involved and if it can even be done. Any suggestions???

Re: System Check Retro

To use the System Check on your older motor, you first have to have the VRO pump with the 4 wire alarm system on it; black, tan, purple, gray.

Then you will need a different oil tank pickup assembly which is included in the factory retrofit kit #176709. On that old a motor, you made need to make some splices or adaptions so everything hooks up OK. The book says the retro kit fits 1991 to 1995 motors, but from looking at the wiring diagram, it should work on all engines with the 4 wire "VRO".

Re: System Check Retro

Thanks Seahorse. I am currently using the 4 wire 4ro from DTI Tech. Any idea what the slicing would be and if so do you know what the cost might be. Is there an online source?? Thanks again

Re: System Check Retro

The retro kit is around $230 plus you will need to get either a System Check tach ($165) or the 2" 4-light System Check gauge for around $60.
