Syntheic Gear lube change

My gear lube has 100 hrs on it syn of course...Its a clear as a glass of water no particulates...God i just hate to throw out good oil...Is this something that is done regularly with synthetic seems wasteful

Well, if it bothers you, you could just leave it in there a little longer. It lives in rear axles and transmissions for years with no ill effects......

Mercury, OMC and Volvo wants you to change it once a year to ensure that you're not letting it sit all winter with (possible) water contamination.......

Some of us don't change it every year........

My gear oil is clean like that when I drain it, I just use it for chain saw chain lube, then it's not wasted.

You can get kits to send in a sample to have engine oil tested. Would likely work for this too. Would tell you if there are minute amounts of metal in the oil. Probably cost as much as just changing the oil but could put your mind at ease.
