Synthane washer too thick

On an alpha one gen one I needed to replace the gimbal ring and housing with a new to me used unit. I chose to reuse my old bell housing.
The new synthane washers are too thick to fit in both sides. I can get one in and then the other side is mated well with 9 thou clearance. The new washers are 35 thou.
I recall the washers I tossed out during disassembly we considerably thinner than the new ones.
What should I do for the washers?

They should be the correct ones according to the parts catalog.

Possibility maybe that the ring has been distorted or hit and squeezed in. The rings should be the same, hey Bondo what ya think?

Same washer used from 1970 to now... I have checked the thickness of them (I have some in my shed), and both my instruments read 41 thou. (see below)

From what I can tell the replacements are just thicker. They also come with an adhesive side.
To summarize: the new ones are different than the old despite being the correct number.
I also returned my bell housing to its original gimbal ring, the same clearance issue existing.
The options are to sand one down and resurface it or use only one. I don’t expect the drives to last forever anyway.
Thanks guys!!
