Synchronizing Throttle & shifting problems

I have 1968 V4-100 hp Johnson (V4TL-14) with an electromatic lower unit. Engine runs fine; went over it with a fine-tooth comb using Seloc & Clymer manuals. Neither one of these tells me how to synchronize the RPM so I can shift. I can manually rev up the engine at the carb'; once I shift it into gear (forward or reverse) - the engine dies. What am I doing wrong? Has rebuilt carb's, the reeds are good, compression is where it should be, water's pumping, but even with the tank test here - it keeps dying. Please help?

Re: Synchronizing Throttle & shifting problems

Seems I may have this running, and problem fixed. There's a fine area to the setting of throttle and low idle. Having toyed with this, I put a prop on and tested in the tank again - this time it shifted without dying. Old engines need more time to warm up I guess.
