Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... You could try puttin' a block of wood, 'tween the gimbel ring, 'n the hump on the top of the drive,....
Then run the trim Up,.....

I don't do much with Volvos, so I'm not sure what holds 'em in place, besides the 6 nuts,.....
On a Merc, it's gotta be in forward, so the shift linkages will part,...
Don't want you to go breakin' something I don't know about,.... ;)

Remove the top cover and undo the shift cable,
per Bondo place blocks of wood between the hump and the transom. Raise trim SLOWLY.
You are frocing the drive off SLOWLY . Increase the length of the wood blocks until drive comes off

There is one thing which happens, the drive shaft may be bound up in the drive coupler. If that is what is wrong then the only way the to remove the drive will be to cut the shaft just behind the engine then the engine needs to come out to replace the coupler. After that then the drive shaft will need to be replaced along with whichever needs replacing. Normally when the shaft is rusted to the gimbal bearing the bearing will come out with the shaft.

That and because there is no gasket between the drive & the pivot housing they can corrode together…coat with grease to prevent a re-currance. You should be pulling that drive yearly!

coat the mating surfaces with this grease and it won't seize up there again, also coat the driveshaft splines with it.
I've used it extensively in salt water and never had a problem pulling the drive and my boat sits in salt water on a mooring for 5-6 months every season.
The Volvo has no gasket there so the pivot housing and upper gear housing are in direct contact and can corrode together. My Cobra has a gasket that you coat with OMC gasket sealer so it can't get seized there. However on any I/O if your bellows leaks the driveshaft can rust into the gimble bearing and give you a fit trying to get it off.

thanks for advice
I have put grease on all the bolts and the surface and the shaft
When I now had the engine out, I dried it off well and it is as good as new, in fact the whole boat is as good as new

Triple guard grease is the best I have ever used!
Grease everything with it! Splines,mating surfaces,Prop shaft,etc...
