SX-M loud clank noise when putting gear into forward

Hi,

Today I noticed a single loud clank noise while putting the gear in forward but runs smooth after. This doesn't happen when putting it into reverse. This sounds expensive... Am I in trouble?

You can hear the noise more when I pull the lever fwd (UP) the second time.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds normal to me. They always make a bit more noise one direction than the other.

The engine buffers the noise a lot in the video. I've never heard or felt it that loud before especially from the helm.

thanks again!

What is your engine rpm? The higher the rpm, the louder it sounds. You could have the gear lash and bearing preloads checked and adjusted. The drive does have 13 to 14 years of use on it.

You guys are fine, it's winter and you need something to worry about. Worry if you want, but you don't have a problem..

Have you pulled your drive lately and greased the coupler splines? That is something you should worry about if you haven't.

I'm planning to remove it for the first time once I get all my ducks in a row. Do you have a diagram that shows what the coupler splines is and how to grease it on my drive.

Just to confirm...it's an engine coupler and drive shaft splines correct?

I have the same problem with my SX drive but my clank seems to be louder. After watching your video I believe my idle may be a little high. Boat is going in for maintenance next week so we'll see then.

a nice 3.0 GS - i have the same engine . your idle sounds to me around 1100-1200, right ?

maybe a bit too high. i,m sure its only the video sound, but somewhow the engine sounds a little odd , as one cylinder would fire a little bit strange.
