Hey Guys. I saw a new Chaparral 22 ft boat at the dealer tehotehr day and it has a VP SX drive. But what caught my eye is that it looked very different from my SX. Slightly different shape and it had and exhaust above the prop much like the DP (in fact it looked like a DP unit, but i just has 1 prop. I looked at the drive and it has SX-A stamped on the serial plate. Just wondering what this drive was and what makes different from the standard SX. thx

Re: SX-A?

Here are a few of the major changes, other than the style of the new SX-A and DP-A being more like the DPH drive. They are NOT interchangable with the older SX/DP-S drives The cutout in the transom is the same, but to use one of these drives you need the complete drive and transom shield assemblies.

20 pounds lighter
Reduced exhaust back pressure
Reduced exhaust noise
Improved water intake
Integrated pitot tube for speedo
Maintenance free gimbal bearing (Lubed for life) ? ? ? ? ?
Improved trim sender (Same as XDP)
Shift linkage on the side
Integrated, high capacity trim system in transom shield. No pump inside boat

Re: SX-A?

Don, I saw one of these on a new Four Winns at my dealer a few weeks ago. From what I remember the tilt/trim cylinders don't look as heavy duty as the SX-M and the whole drive looks much slimmer and lighter. Are they as robust?

LUBE FOR LIFE? Seems like they would have learned from OMC about this little claim. Hey what the heck, most people don't lube em anyway so why not. I'd like to read the small print on the warranty..."does not cover normal wear and tear"!
