So I think I may have a leak at the swivel shaft...

How does one go about stopping such a leak. What components are there to stop a leak.

There has to be a gap around the shaft to allow it to move in a circle. There has to be a gap between the top and the bottom (0.001 to .010)

I don't see any "Grease" fittings...

Advice?

Properly and done once
remove the transom housing, remove shaft, replace bushing and seal, and install the grease fitting. Drill a 1/8 in hole thru the housing and bushing, redrill housing and retap for a fitting.Another "Mercs better idea to save .02cents" Have done 2 already caused by rust destroying the upper seal.Installing the fitting is a breeze.

is this a grease fitting feeding directly into the center (round) section of the swivel shaft, or the one that feeds the top of the swivel shaft?

Re: Swivel Shaft leak

This hole is drilled in the upper section to go thru the bushing ,this will supply grease to the round part of the shaft between the steering arm and steering ring. Will try to have some pics tonite

I already have the #6 grease fitting indicated in the below picture, I believe your suggestion is to add another, about 2" lower, through the gimbal housing, which will directly lube the middle section?

That would make sense to me, but I really did not want to start drilling more holes:)

That is the area I install them, some transom housing dont have that fitting and the rust on the shaft takes out the seal.you should be able to see grease in the area when using the grease gun.
