Dear Forum,

I just bought a DVA meter, I have a 1988 Mercury 90hp, 3 cylinder outboard serial number 0B302485. My question is the trigger has a brown, purple and white wire hooked to the switchbox, I assume this ties into the 3 coils that are on my outboard. I have 4 posts on the bottom of the switchbox, one red and one blue for the stator, one for the kill switch and one black/white which is the bias wire connection. My question is can I place the DVA probe, one on ground and one on each of the three that go to the coils and if so what kind of a reading should I get? My other question is will I get any kind of voltage between the red and blue connections on the switchbox that comes off of the stator? If so, what should I get there? Maybe I can only check resistance between the blue and red stator wires? Thanks

Re: Switchbox Voltage readings

From CDIelectronics

"Check the DVA output on the Green wires from the switch box while connected to the ignition coils. Check the reading on
the switch box terminal AND on the ignition coil terminal. You should have a reading of at least 150V or more at both
terminals. If the reading is low on one cylinder, disconnect the Green wire from the ignition coil for that cylinder and
reconnect it to a load resistor. Retest. If the reading is now good, the ignition coil is likely bad. A continued low reading
symptom indicates a bad power pack."
