Does anyone recognize the manufacturer of this switch? Its on a 1993 Sea Nymph FM 160. I looked on a few boat sites for rocker switches like this but no luck so far. Sea Nymph is out of business but I think Lowe took them over. I may see if they have any if I can't find a retailer.

Also, anyone have any tricks for getting these out of the panel from the front side? The one I want to take out is in a very bad place and I can't get to it from the back side without taking a few other switches out or some other major surgery to my dash.

....Looks like I need to clean my dash...it doesn't look that bad until you take a closeup macro shot.

First, are you sure the switch is bad? Switches like that have some plastic tabs that keep the switch in place. They spring out when the switch is pushed into the hole in the panel. The only way to get them out is to remove the panel, then release the switch from the back. If the lights don't work, I'm betting the switch is not the problem.

Re: Switch brand

Silvertip...no the switch is not bad. I am just trying to find another one like it. I have an extra (unused) switch in the panel that is a standard on/off. I was going to use it for lighting. I bought some LED lights that I was going to install and realized they are brighter than I anticipated. For this reason, I was thinking I would hook up 2 of them on one circuit and the rest on a second circuit. That way I could select 2 different lighting levels. (2 or all) I wanted to replace the standard on/off switch with a on/off/on like the one used for bow/anchor lights which is in the photo. I just don't know where I can find an exact match. If anyone can help me identify the manufacturer of the switch, I'd appreciate it.

Oh...and by the way.. It isn't just a small panel that I'd have to take out. The panel is basically the entire dash including the steering wheel. I really don't want to have to go that far to get that switch out. If I can't find a new switch or can't get the old one out easily, I may just mount a second switch under the dash somewhere out of the way that will connect to the wires after the first 2 and will control the rest of the lights. I'd rather do it right to begin with but I don't want take my control panel completely apart to do it.

Re: Switch brand

Hey,

That's a McGill. I actually bought a bunch of those for my resto project from Variety Surplus on Ebay. It's the exact same switch.

I didn't buy any extras though, sorry!

I have the numbers from the side of it for you.

0852-0254
Lamp: 14vac
J0247

Here's a link, it appears the product numbers have changed. Just the last 4 numbers, the 0852 series is correct.

Here's some for sale: Great Lakes Skipper

Hope this helps.

Re: Switch brand

jameskb2.... Excellent! Thank you very much for identifiying that switch! I figured it was something no longer made since the boat is 15 years old. Now, I'll just have to try and see if I can get the old one out.

I greatly appreciate your assistance.

Re: Switch brand

One more think if I may.... is the double pole what I would need if I want to use 2 circuits? The 0852 is a single pole and the 0862 is a double pole. I guess I'm not sure what the difference is. It would need to work like the bow/anchor switch.

Thanks

Re: Switch brand

Well, yes and no.

From what I read, you want an "on - off - on" switch so that some lights are on in one position, and all lights are on in another no?

I guess that's what I'd get. I was at first under the impression that you wanted to ADD a switch, not swap one out. The second switch being used for your "all lights on" circuit, your current switch being used for "some lights on".

So if I wanted to run "all lights - no lights - some lights" from one switch I'd go with the on - off - on switch.

Same vendor has it there on ebay.

Re: Switch brand

You actually want one called a "Double Throw" not a "Double Pole", the double throw is the on - off - on type something like the 0852-0002 or 0852-0022 unless you also want it to be illuminated then 0852-2102 plus many others, however you need to use a diode to prevent all the lights from being on in both positions just like they use in a bow/stern light setup or else spend the extra $ and get a double pole/double throw switch.

Re: Switch brand

Boatin Bob...I just took the double pole from the company web site. They say double pole and not double throw. I get what you mean though.

jameskb2...yes, the on-off-on is what I'm going to try and get. I found from the eBay vendor but for one switch, 9 bucks seems steep for shipping. They same guy has his own web site and shipping is only 6 bucks there. A little better but I am giving my local marine dealer a shot first. He is looking into ordering one.

Thanks for the info. I'll probably post a diagram of my wiring plans to make sure I'm doing it right.
