swing tongue kit

Has anyone had any experience with the Fulton bolt on swing tongue trailer kit? How sturdy is it compared to custom welded units?<br />Here's a link to the one I'm looking at. Boat/motor/trailer approx. 2500lbs.<br /> http://www2.northerntool.com/product-1/200311795.htm

Fulton is known to make good stuff, mischief. Never used one, but I would trust it if I did need one.

i know several people who have them, in order to shut the garage door. all seem very happy with them,. have not heard any problems.

I installed one last year and am very happy with it. Went on fairly easily. Didn't like the idea of the clevis pin retained locking pin though, so replaced with a locking hitch pin instead. Added benefit is ability to lock tongue open so that it can't be put back in position for towing.

willmettejeff<br />Thanks for the info. How big of a boat and trailer are you using it on. I have a 17.5 ft aluminum with a 150 that weighs in at about 2000lbs. The specs say it will handle 5000lbs but it doesn't look that beefy.

My boat is a 14' Fiberform fiberglass runabout with 70hp Johnson outboard. Don't know what it weighs but don't think it is much over 1300lbs. You must have a lot of gear in that aluminum boat to be as heavy as it is. Just bought a 1965 16' Larson Valero with trailer and will be salvaging the Fiberform for parts including the swing tongue to renovate the Larson. Anyway, kind of agree with you that the swing tongue doesn't look strong enough to handle 5000lbs and have wondered about long term fatigue at the hinge points. We'll see over time. Maybe some grease is in order. There are some places at the hinge points that look like Fulton at least thought about installing grease fittings at one time or another.
