Re: Swing Away Trailer Tongue

I did it myself by buying whatever gauge steel that would fit either over or inside the tube that the trailer was built out of. Get whatever length you think you will need. undo your wiring harness and extend it to the new length. slide your new tube either inside or outside (whichever you opted for) and drill two holes, one at each end through both tubes and put a tractor linchpin in it. You will need to put a new ground at the front and make it detachable so when you slide this tube in and out you can pull your wires through with it.

Check with the manufacturer of your trailer. Most of them offer them although some may not be retrofittable.

As long as you stay at or under the specified 3500# gross weight (weight of boat, trailer, gas, motor, gear, batteries, etc.). I'm not fond of the construction of this device but it's probably ok. Check www.shorelander.com and check the "accessories" category for their swing tongue construction. Stresses are handled much better with this design. I don't mean to imply their device will work on your trailer (although it might) but it will give you an idea of various designs.
