Hello. My remote control box has seen better days. It is for a 1963 75hp Selectric Shift. The plastic is cracked in many places and I believe that some of the internals are missing. I will be replacing it soon but I am wondering if I can replace it with a box from a different model. I would keep the push-button switch and I realize that I may need to do some customizing in order for the switch to fit into another box, but I'm okay with that. As far as I can see, the box is simply a place where the throttle cable attaches and where the wires for the shift coils attaches. Therefore, I would think that any box would work, with a bit of customizing. I can't think of any reason why another box wouldn't work. Am I missing anything?
Of course you are wondering why I would go through the trouble of customizing a box that doesn't belong with my motor instead of buying the original box. It's because of availability, and therefore, price. If I could find a box that is more readily available I would save myself a boatload of cash (pun intended!)
