Have a 75 wellcraft. Came with inline 6 cyl.Mercruiser motor, with alpha 1 drive unit. Motor is shot, want to replace this motor with a inline 4 cyl. Mercruiser freshwater cooled motor. (488, 188hp) Will this motor match up with the original drive unit. Can I make the swap, and if so does anyone have any tips for doing so?

You can do it but its going to be cheaper to replace with the 6 cylinder. Its a great engine. Have it rebuilt.

I agree with Trent, the inline six is a good engine, have had the 4 cylinders before, but better satisfied with the six.
