Im switching my boat over from a 84 merc blackmax 150.... To a 2000 model Merc 150.... On the control wiring... i think the plug ins are the same... but i noticed the new motor has a couple extra wires ... Does anyone know if i need to hook them up... Or if i can just ignore them... Or do i have to swap out the ignition switch or something...

In the middle of this process to find this out.. and it sucks...lol:facepalm:

Get ahold of the two wiring diaghrams from maxrules.com. Now make an interconnection diaghram. Does your '74 motor have an overheat alarm and gauge? If not those could be the wires. They would be tan. PTT wires are green and bue

im not positive if it has an alarm or not... If it does ive never heard it... And its never beeped when i turn the key on...it has no gauge either... Im going to put a water psi gauge on it for sure... But im worried about not haveing an alarm on the oil system... My 84 was premix... The new engine has auto mix unfortunatly... I have a seloc manaul for my 84... And a factory merc manual... Idunno if my factory man covors this new engine or not... But i have read through all the wiring schematics a few times... I think i know where those wires all go now.... But i dont know about the alarm...

Re: Swapping motors

Overheat alarm sensors are on the cylinder heads. See if both motors have them.
