Ok heres the deal, My boat has a mercury on it. that blew up. My father in law gave me a boat with a johnson on it. Can any of you all tell me the issues i'm going to run into with switchin the johnson onto my boat? They both have power trim, and are about the same horsepower. Is the johnson going to mount up with the same holes drilled in my trasom for the merc? ANy input will be greatley appreciated.

Re: swapping motors

It depends on the model of Merc. If the trim system is between the transom clamps, it should bolt right on. The controls and wiring will be quite different. For the most part, wiring color codes are the same, but plugs are different. Some gauges are incompatible, but most are the same.

Re: swapping motors

take the complete system from one boat and put in the other. merc and johnson controls have differ throw lengths. if they are newer engine the holes are uniform, if older they may not be.
