Ok heres the deal, My boat has a mercury on it. No surprise it blew up. My father in law gave me a boat with a johnson on it. Can any of you all tell me the issues i'm going to run into with switchin the johnson onto my boat? They both have power trim, and are about the same horsepower. Is the johnson going to mount up with the same holes drilled in my trasom for the merc? ANy input will be greatley appreciated.

Re: Swapping Merc to Johnson

I was in the same situation as you about 6 months ago.
Without knowing the years and sizes a can't answer for sure but mine where not even close to the same bolt pattern.
my steering wasn not an issue.
I plugged the holes with dowels with and fiberglassed up the holes.
it was not a big installation but take your time and don't rush.

thanks for the info, going from an 89 80hp merc to an 85 90hp johnson, have all controls and everything considering they are on the other boat. Would use his boat, but mine is in much better shape

I don't think the bolt mounting pattern will be different, because both are 'newer' motors.Real old Merc's had a pattern of their own.
