I have a 1973 115hp (inline 6cyl). I would like to know if I can put a 125hp or 135hp powerhead on it to get more horsepower? If I can, how much other stuff do I need to switch out too?

thanks

Re: SWAPPING MERC. POWER HEADS

You would be better off to try and stay close to the year of the current motor. Sometimes they change little things like water pathways. Check with the mechanic, but my switch from a 115 to a 140 was 6 or 8 bolts under the powerhead and bringing the 140 powerhead and bolting it on. Everything else pluged right in (Controls, electrical, shift shaft, drive shaft, water tube, etc.)

As far as I know it should work though. If you can make it fit take the 1250, it is a great motor. my parents had one from 1970 and it sucked a reed valve in 1993. We never did anything to it. It still had the warranty seal when they pulledit apart.

Good luck in your choice.

Craig
