Swapping Electric shift lower for manual shift?

Hi Again.. question for the experts..

I have the lower for a 73 65hp (everything but the power head basically) and it is a manual shift. A chap I know is having problems with his electric shift lower from a 71 60hp. As it is so complete I was thinking we can transplant his power head onto my complete lower and tower assembly and add the gear and throttle linkages? Or can we?? I have the shift linkages from the manual block and the controls.. .. Any suggestions.. questions or words of encouragement or warnings? for you guys..
Thanks as always

Dave

I'm wondering about the same thing. Does anyone know if you can put a manual-shift lower unit on a 3 cyl electric-shift OMC motor from the early 70's? How much would need to be changed?

Thanks!

Hi, my name is Jeff. You can can switch an electric to a manual if your blocks have the embossment on the bottom of the carb plate, some have holes predrilled, some don't. If your's has the embossment, with no hole, you have to drill and apply all your shift linkage after drilling holes (2).
If you need any parts, email me @NeeDeep7@aol.com, I may have them since I work on outboards as a hobby.

The electric shift units were very good (my opinion ) they did not have linkages to adjust etc. I would have a look at the electric shift unit to see what the actual problems were . Agais as posted earlier you need a place for the shift linkage to mount to go across the motor below the carburetors.Sparky
