I have a Suzuki 115hp. I don't know the year. The model number in the owners manual says DT115TCLT and the ID is 651073. The book is a '94 so I imagine the engine is around that age. I went to start the engine and it sounded like a dead battery so I pulled the batteries and found the #1 with a terminal that had melted. The #2 had a very minor bit of melting. I recharged it and bought a new #1 and reinstalled them. Then I started to lower the engine and the PTT motor started surging and then gave out. I can still hear a click when I try to trim, but nothing happens. To my knowledge, there is only one place that works on Suzukis in the Keys and they already worked on it once and replaced the PTT and obviously didn't fix it. Does it sound like I need another PTT? Could the PTT have melted the battery terminal and if so why? Is this a job that absolutely requires a mechanic?

Re: Suzuki PTT

The proble may be as simple as a dirty connection or a faulty relay. Clean all your battery connections. Have someone tap the relays while you operate the tilt switch. try tapping the tilt motor while someone operates the switch. Good luck!

Re: Suzuki PTT

I tried that at lunch and the weird thing is that I tried the trim tilt switch before tapping on the PTT motor and there was some juice left in it and it actually moved a bit, but then quit again so I tapped on it and nothing much happened. Is it possible to change the relays w/o changing the entire PTT? Also, I don't know where the relays are. Where are they usually?
