Looking at the attached wiring diagram, it looks like I should get the starter engaged by connecting bl/r, w/r, and Br. The neutral switch is in a good position and the kill switch is in the off position(ie motor can run). However the starter does not engage when I jump those three wires.

Any thoughts would be welcome. tia

I cannot read that horrid diagram. The Br coming off the neutral switch you can jump straight to battery, and as long as the battery is actually bonded to the engine, it should crank. If not, access all the way to the starter to Y/G (around the NSS) and it should crank. If not, bad solenoid or starter

Yes W/R is battery, make sure you are not getting fooled by the fuse. Sometimes fuse holder/ fuse itself can show power on a meter/ light but under load give up on a bad connection.

If I read that right, BL or BL/R is part of the stop switch and is a grounding function like "ground the mag" If that is correct DO NOT hook it to power

Face/palm… of course its probably a bad starter solenoid. I jumped the solenoid terminals and the starter cranked… i already attempted jumping across bl/r so hopefull I didn't do any damage. Thanks for the input.

Best to check the neutral start switch.-----Factory solenoid is not cheap.-----The solenoid should be tested before spending beer tokens.

Yeh I would certainly double check everything. One large terminal of starter is " battery" so you should be able to jump from there direct to the small solenoid terminal, and it should crank the engine. If not, check for power between the starter "frame" and the starter big battery terminal. Should be hot full time.

Neutral safety and fuse check out, which I believe leaves only the starter solenoid as the issue. Hopefully connecting new solenoid will allow start from jumping w/r and brown. Thanks again for your help

Replaced the solenoid, but did not solve the problem. Connecting w/r and brown still doesnt crank. Ive been working off a suzuki manual bc its a rebadged 2004 johnson, but I guess I’ll need to chase down a johnson manual

yes using the proper manual would be a good idea

You could use a meter to help figure out where you have power and where it is not

Yeah, I dont think its a power issue, I think I just need to figure out which wires need to be connected. I thought it was bl/r, w/r, and Br, but i was advised not to connect bl/r to power. So we shall see what actual manual has to say.
